Second Plate is a logo and branding project for a company dedicated to reducing food waste and fighting food insecurity. The organization partners with grocery stores and restaurants to collect surplus food that would otherwise be discarded and redistributes it to those in need—whether at homeless shelters, schools, or churches.
The design is playful and colorful, bringing a sense of light and positivity to a serious cause. I hand-illustrated six vegetable characters—a bell pepper, tomato, radish, eggplant, potato, and pea—to serve as the visual heart of the brand, giving it a friendly and approachable personality. The goal of the branding is to make the mission feel engaging and hopeful, while emphasizing the impact of ending food waste and helping communities in need.
